Emma Stone References a Taylor Swift Lyric While Thanking her Daughter During Her Second Oscar Win

Emma Stone secured her second Oscar win at the 2024 Academy Awards on Sunday, clinching the Best Actress category. The award was presented by past winners Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Sally Field, and Jessica Lange.

Acknowledging her recent dress mishap and a somewhat strained voice in her acceptance speech, Stone remarked, “My voice is also a little gone — whatever.” She candidly shared her moment of panic before the ceremony, stating, “The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot. That maybe something like this could happen, and Yorgos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it.’ And he was right because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. And that is the best part about making movies. It’s all of us together.”

Expressing deep gratitude, Stone emphasized, “I am so deeply honored to share this with every cast member, with every crew member, with every single person who poured their love and their care and their brilliance into the making of this film.”

Before concluding her speech, Stone took a moment to thank her family, including her mom, brother Spencer, dad, and husband Dave McCary. She also expressed love for her nearly three-year-old daughter, quoting Taylor Swift‘s lyric: “I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl,” from the song “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” on Swift’s Grammy-winning album Midnights. Stone’s performance in the Yorgos Lanthimos–directed comedy had previously earned her a Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and a BAFTA, with her last Oscar win dating back to 2016 for her leading role in “La La Land.”
