The Filming of ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 has been Postponed, with the HBO Series Still Aiming for a Return in 2025

Filming plans for the upcoming third season of HBO’s hit series Euphoria are on hold as creator Sam Levinson continues to work on scripts. The network has granted the cast permission to pursue other acting opportunities during this interim period.

“While Sam Levinson remains committed to delivering an exceptional third season, we have allowed our talented cast to explore other opportunities in the meantime,” HBO stated.

Although there was no firm production start date for Season 3, filming was anticipated to commence within the next few months. Actress Sydney Sweeney, following the premiere of her new horror film Immaculate at South by Southwest earlier this month, mentioned her upcoming commitments to Euphoria.

The acclaimed drama, whose second season aired over two years ago, has propelled the careers of its cast members into stardom. With several cast members becoming movie stars, including Zendaya, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, and Colman Domingo, who recently received an Oscar nomination, HBO’s decision to allow them to pursue other projects during the production hiatus reflects their high demand.

While discussions about the possibility of a movie in place of the third season arose, the focus ultimately shifted back to producing a new season.

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, previously stated in November that Season 3 of Euphoria was slated for a 2025 premiere, a plan that remains unchanged.

In an interview with Elle last August, Levinson teased Season 3 as a “film noir” and hinted at exploring Zendaya’s character’s journey as a recovering addict navigating a corrupt world. Domingo offered insight into the upcoming season, noting Levinson’s interest in exploring existential questions amidst the current societal landscape.

Between Seasons 2 and 3, the Euphoria family experienced loss with the passing of star Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.

Set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, Euphoria delves into themes of hope, love, loss, and addiction. Based on an Israeli series of the same name, the show has garnered nine Emmy Awards across its first two seasons, including two for Zendaya, making her the youngest two-time Lead Actress In a Drama Series Emmy winner, and one for Domingo.
