Shortly after releasing “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” Taylor Swift delighted fans at her Kansas City concert by unveiling the Easter-egg filled music video for “I Can See You.” Serving as the writer and director, Swift crafted a video that pays homage to the “Speak Now” era and features Joey King, Taylor Lautner, and Presley Cash. King and Cash had previously appeared in Swift’s 2011 music video for “Mean,” while Lautner served as the inspiration for “Back to December.”
During her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City on July 7, Swift invited Lautner, Cash, and King onstage to introduce the music video to an exhilarated stadium full of fans. Lautner expressed his admiration for Swift, praising her not just as a singer, songwriter, and performer, but also as an extraordinary human being. He commended her grace, humility, and kindness, stating that he was honored to know her.
In the music video, the trio of actors join forces to help Swift escape from a literal vault. Swift shared on Instagram that she had envisioned this concept for a long time, using it as a metaphor to symbolize how her fans have supported her in reclaiming her music.
Sharing a carousel of images from the video set, Swift expressed her excitement about its release, revealing that she had written the video treatment over a year ago. She specifically mentioned her desire to have Joey King, Taylor Lautner, and Presley Cash star in the video. Swift highlighted King and Cash’s return from their previous appearance in the “Mean” video, praising their incredible performances.
Swift also commended Lautner for doing all of his own stunts in the action-packed video, emphasizing his dedication. She further expressed her pride in directing fight scenes and developing a heist storyline, thanking her amazing Director of Photography, Selena Jon. Swift concluded her post by mentioning the “Tale of 3 Taylors” and included a fun shot of herself, Lautner, and Lautner’s wife, Taylor Dome, recreating the Spider-Man meme on the set.
Dome took to Instagram to express her admiration for Swift, calling her one of the most talented individuals and praising her genuine kindness and down-to-earth nature. She expressed gratitude for being welcomed into Swift’s camp and emphasized the singer’s passion for her work and love for her fans.
Joey King also shared her appreciation for Swift, acknowledging her significant presence in her life since they met when King was only nine years old. King considered herself lucky to have known Swift for a long time and described her as a magical person, expressing eternal love.
