Boston rapper and songwriter 217Vinci has a brief chat with PopCultr about his latest single “Memories.” The rapper who has experienced life on the streets firsthand, recalls his hometown and reveals new personal details about himself.
What’s your background and what sparked your desire to become an artist?
I grew up in Dorchester, I wanted to be an artist to tell my story.
How did “Memories,” your latest single, come to life? What’s the main message behind it?
I wanted to paint a picture of what can happen when you jump in the streets too early.
Which artists have inspired you? How do these influences translate into your own music today?
Lil Durk. I try to stay true to myself whenever I write or create new music.
Are you more of a recording artist, a performer or both?
Both, but I definitely enjoy the booth more.
How would you define your own sonic aesthetics, genre, or subgenre?
I would call it Trap Soul.
What’s your favorite track from your repertoire?
“Nightmare In The Trenches”
Besides music, what are some of your favorite hobbies/passions?
Whenever I’m not making music, I spend most of my time with my son. So, I would say being a dad.
