Kendall Jenner’s appearance at Vogue World 2024 in Paris had a striking resemblance to Lady Godiva. The model entered Place Vendôme riding a Spanish horse named Django in Hermès jodhpurs, but for the grand finale, she swapped her riding outfit for a revealing dress. Jenner, 28, wore Look 35 from Simone Rocha’s collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier—a collection inspired by 1986’s Le Défilé and the character Countess Ellen Olenska from The Age of Innocence.
This collection, designed by Rocha as a tribute to Gaultier, centered on a wedding theme, bridging her spring 2024 collection’s “Dress Rehearsal” and fall 2024’s “Wake.” Rocha aimed to channel Gaultier’s spirit and iconic style, bringing femininity, sexuality, and playfulness to the table. Jenner’s finale look featured classic Gaultier corsetry, elegant gloves, and a tulle skirt adorned with Simone Rocha crystals.
Cara Delevingne, the evening’s host, also wore an outfit from the Simone Rocha X Jean Paul Gaultier collection, specifically Look 15. Her attire included one of Rocha’s takes on Gaultier’s famous conical bras, with sharp tips resembling rose thorns, complemented by matching satin ballet slippers.
Jean Paul Gaultier himself made a guest appearance to dress Aya Nakamura for her opening performance. Nakamura’s dress was a blend of two of Gaultier’s previous designs: the tight-fitting outfits from his final couture show in 2020 and the corsets from his spring 2012 collection paying homage to Amy Winehouse. Gaultier explained that the dress highlighted Nakamura’s beautiful figure and was a mix of past collections, reflecting his early career inspiration of transforming flea market finds and hosiery into unique pieces. He expressed his honor in creating a dress for Nakamura, seeing it as a celebration of France’s beauty, much like Vogue World 2024.
