Finneas, Billie Eilish‘s brother and long-time collaborator, revealed that the Grammy-winning artist’s third studio album is currently “85 per cent done.” Having previously produced and co-written Eilish’s first two albums, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ (2019) and ‘Happier Than Ever’ (2021), as well as her 2022 EP ‘Guitar Songs,’ Finneas offered insights into the progress of the highly anticipated project during an interview with Mr Porter.
Acknowledging the challenges faced during the album’s creation, Finneas shared that the process had been “challenging” this time around. The article referenced Eilish’s recent interviews where she opened up about a period of writer’s block. The pop star disclosed her struggle to find inspiration for new songs until she was approached to create the Barbie soundtrack single, ‘What Was I Made For?’
According to Mr Porter, Eilish’s third album is finally “coming together.” Finneas explained the difficulty Billie faced in connecting with the material they were trying to write about. “Making a thing that you feel really connected to – it can really evade you,” he noted, shedding light on the intricate process of crafting a deeply personal album.
Finneas admitted feeling a bit rusty due to an intense touring schedule with Eilish, leaving limited time for songwriting. Reflecting on the challenge, he said, “And that was scary. It was discouraging to realize that if I take time off, my songwriting muscle atrophies. I had to get back in shape.”
Looking ahead to the coming year, Finneas expressed his intention to bring more balance to his work as they progress with “Billie 3.” “I love to create,” he added, “But I don’t love drowning in it. So, I’m trying to have a more regulated relationship with it. I’m producing responsibly.”
Eilish herself recently teased on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that her next album was “almost done.” While remaining tight-lipped about specifics, she hinted at more revelations in the future, promising, “At some point you will know more, but I’m not going to say anything.” The singer had previously hinted in September that she had “a whole album” in the works, assuring fans of “lots of music coming” in the near future.
