Spotify has revealed that The Weeknd’s song “Blinding Lights” has reached number one on its platform, passing Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You.” The artist himself has also confirmed via his official social network profiles that the track has become the most listened to song of all time.

The Weeknd achieved this milestone after “Blinding Lights” earned 3,332 million new views, from its release in November 2019 until January 1, becoming the most streamed song on Spotify.
Ed Sheeran already saw it coming a few weeks ago when he spoke about it during an interview: “Blinding Lights is about to surpass “Shape of You” as the most played song of all time. And I think it debuted at #11 or 12. And then it grew, and now it’s the biggest song of all time.”
“Blinding Lights” was one of the first singles from The Weeknd’s fourth studio album, After Hours. It garnered a whopping 2.7 billion views worldwide in 2021 alone. That means that almost half of the people on this planet listened to the song at least once.
