The world of Barbie continues to cast its spell on moviegoers, as the Margot Robbie-led comedy sets yet another box office record. Barbie has now become Warner Bros. Pictures‘ biggest-selling movie for a Monday ever, overtaking the legendary film, The Dark Knight.
On Monday, Barbie raked in an impressive $26 million in North America, surpassing The Dark Knight’s record of $24.6 million (unadjusted for inflation) earned back in 2008. Directed by Greta Gerwig, Barbie has been delighting audiences worldwide, and its box office success shows no signs of slowing down.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer, starring the talented Cillian Murphy as Manhattan Project lead physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, earned $12.6 million on Monday, bringing its domestic total to $95 million since its release on the same day as Barbie. Though Oppenheimer has been performing well, Barbie has emerged as the clear box office champion, amassing an impressive $188 million in North America.

On a global scale, Barbie has reached a remarkable $382 million in worldwide earnings as of Monday, according to Variety. While it remains uncertain if Barbie will surpass The Dark Knight’s staggering $1 billion global theatrical run, its performance is undoubtedly impressive.
In Barbie, Margot Robbie takes on the role of the iconic Mattel doll, as she embarks on a journey from Barbie Land to explore the real world in search of answers. The film has struck a chord with audiences, earning $162 million domestically over its opening weekend, making it the biggest-ever debut for a movie directed by a woman.
Coincidentally, both Barbie and Oppenheimer share a connection to Christopher Nolan. He directed The Dark Knight trilogy, which included Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). While Nolan wasn’t involved in the movies where Robbie portrayed Harley Quinn, he remains an influential figure in the superhero genre.
As The Dark Knight commemorated its 15th anniversary this month, Nolan shared in an interview with YouTuber HugoDécrypte that he has no plans to direct another superhero movie. His focus has shifted to other cinematic ventures.
