Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Derik Baker, professionally known as Virginia To Vegas, drops his new synth-pop single “Break Up With That Guy.” Released via Wax Records, the track is about crushing over a girl who already has a boyfriend, “Baby, let me love you/ Every way he’s not/ It’s pretty clear to me/ That he doesn’t know what he’s got/ You’re perfect, he’s so full of shit/ You need some equivalent/ It’s obvious he isn’t it.”
The Juno nominated artist reveals how he came together with Band Camino to create the track, “It was a late night out on Broadway in Nashville when Jeffrey Jordan from Band Camino called me to ask if I could meet him and Seth Ennis in the studio at 9 am for a write. They’re legit one of my favourite bands and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity.”
Baker admitted to being tired and tipsy during the session, but it all turned out for the better, “…was the right mix for us to bang out a fun song that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We originally wrote “Break Up With That Guy” for Band Camino, but over the next couple weeks, something about this track resonated with me and I fell in love with the song. I’m so glad they were cool with me taking it on and making it my own!”
Virginia To Vegas will perform at the Light House Arts Centre on December 8, 2022. Ria Mae and Noelle will accompany the Toronto-based musician on the Rock Paper Scissors tour. With four times Platinum singles and six Top 10 Radio singles, the “Break Up With That Guy” singer has belted many awards and nominations, including SOCAN awards, JUNO Award nomination, INDIE Award, MMVA nomination, and a Canadian Radio Music Award.
