Lady Gaga Reacts with Humor After French Prime Minister’s Office Accidentally Announces Her Engagement

Lady Gaga recently opened up about the unexpected way her engagement to Michael Polansky was revealed to the world. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show to promote her role as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, Gaga shared the story behind the surprising public announcement of her engagement, which took place in Paris in July 2024.

Lady Gaga, who was in the French capital to perform at the opening ceremonies for the Summer Olympics, accidentally let slip the news during a casual introduction with French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. In a video clip, which was later posted to Attal’s TikTok account, Gaga referred to Polansky as her “fiancé.” As she explained to Norton, “The prime minister actually had his people filming us while they were saying hello and they caught me saying, ‘Oh, this is my fiancé.’ And I was trying to keep it hidden, but then they announced it to everyone. But that was kind of fun.”

Although she hadn’t planned to make the news public at that time, Gaga took the incident in stride, finding humor in the situation. She revealed that Polansky had proposed earlier that year, on April 1st. Initially, she thought it might be an April Fools’ joke, but it turned out to be genuine. “I thought he was joking, but he was not,” Gaga remarked, adding that the proposal was “really nice.”

Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky have been together since they were first seen publicly kissing at a New Year’s Eve party in 2020. They made their relationship official on Instagram in February of that year, and Gaga has referred to Polansky as “the love of my life” in previous interviews.

Gaga also took the opportunity on The Graham Norton Show to talk about her latest music project. In conjunction with the upcoming release of Joker: Folie à Deux on October 4, she recently dropped her companion album Harlequin. The album features a mix of jazzy standards and original tracks, including “Happy Mistake,” “The Joker,” and the title track, “Folie à Deux.” The album offers fans a blend of Gaga’s signature style with a fresh, theatrical twist, reflecting her deep dive into the character of Harley Quinn.

The reveal of her engagement may not have gone as planned, but Gaga’s response shows her characteristic grace under pressure. As her personal and professional lives continue to thrive, fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in her career with the release of Joker: Folie à Deux and her latest musical endeavor.
