Lady Gaga has officially announced her latest project, Harlequin, a companion album for Joker: Folie à Deux. After teasing fans with mysterious posts and billboards, the singer confirmed the album is tied to the upcoming film. However, she clarified that this release is only a “6.5” project and not the full LG7 album, which is still expected early next year.
Joker: Folie à Deux, directed by Todd Phillips, marks a bold shift from the original 2019 Joker film. Known for its dark and complex portrayal of the infamous villain, the sequel brings a unique twist by transforming the storyline into a musical. This change also reflects in Harlequin, which primarily features covers in line with the film’s jukebox musical style.
The tracklist includes several well-known songs, such as the Black spiritual “Oh, When the Saints,” a possible Frank Sinatra rendition of “World On a String,” and the Carpenters’ timeless hit “Close to You.” Other notable songs include “If My Friends Could See Me Now” from Sweet Charity and “That’s Entertainment.”
In a recent surprise appearance at an early screening of the film, Gaga added her signature flair by interacting with the crowd, playfully throwing popcorn while dressed head-to-toe in black.
The album’s tracklist is as follows:
- Good Morning
- Get Happy (2024)
- Oh, When the Saints
- World on a String
- If My Friends Could See Me Now
- That’s Entertainment
- Smile
- The Joker
- Folie à Deux
- Gonna Build a Mountain
- Close to You
- Happy Mistake
- That’s Life
To promote Harlequin, Gaga embraced her on-screen persona, Lee (a version of Harley Quinn), sharing a series of intriguing Instagram posts that gave fans insight into her character’s rebellious nature.
Though Harlequin offers a fresh take on classic songs, fans can rest assured that original Gaga music is on the horizon, with her next full album set to drop next year. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to hit theaters on October 4th.
