Nigerian-Irish singer and songwriter Tolü Makay enchants listeners with her latest offering, “Mind & Body.” Co-written with acclaimed songwriter Steph Marziano and expertly produced by Marziano, alongside mixing by Dan Grech-Marguerat, “Mind & Body” showcases Makay’s soulful vocals against a backdrop of ethereal production.
Delving into the depths of existential anxiety, “Mind & Body” poignantly explores the disconnect between physical sensations and mental presence. Makay‘s introspective lyrics urge listeners to embrace the present moment, emphasizing the importance of self-care and communal connection amidst the chaos of modern life.
Having relocated from Nigeria to Ireland at a young age, music became Makay’s refuge, providing solace and a means of self-expression. Her journey from singing in church to winning national competitions as a teenager laid the foundation for her burgeoning career as a musician.
Tolü Makay‘s music resonates deeply with audiences, particularly within the Black community, as she fearlessly tackles themes of identity, resilience, and empowerment. Her earlier single, “Goodbye,” garnered widespread acclaim, accumulating over 2 million streams and solidifying her position as a formidable voice in the industry.
“Mind & Body” marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Makay in 2024. Scheduled to make her debut on RTÉ One’s The Late Late Show on March 1st, she will then grace the stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., for a performance presented by The Ireland Funds.
