In a recent red carpet interview, global icon Rihanna dropped tantalizing hints about the possibility of both new music and an upcoming world tour. The pop sensation, who took a hiatus from the music scene, was asked about her return to the stage during the interview with Entertainment Tonight.
While affirming her commitment to touring, Rihanna emphasized her desire to synchronize it with the release of fresh material. “Well, we’re always gonna go back on tour,” she assured, adding, “[But] I feel I want to do a tour when there’s new music.” The Barbadian singer expressed the importance of delivering something new to her loyal fans, stating, “I feel like it’s only fair that my fans get what they’ve been waiting on, which is new music. After that, let’s just like, blow everything up.”
Rihanna’s last full-length album, ‘Anti,’ was released in 2016, marking her eighth studio record. Reflecting on the album’s legacy and her perfectionist tendencies, she admitted that these factors have contributed to the delay in releasing her next work. “I realized that if I keep waiting until this feels right and perfect and better, maybe it’s going to keep taking forever, and maybe it’ll never come out, and no, I’m not down to that,” she explained. The Fenty fashion label owner also acknowledged her eagerness to play with new ideas, although she couldn’t reveal them just yet.
Despite initially planning a tour this year, Rihanna’s plans took a turn when she and partner A$AP Rocky announced they were expecting their second child, Riot Rose. Rumors are now circulating that she is one of the two female headliners set to top the bill at a festival in 2024.
Rihanna’s latest musical offering was the 2022 song ‘Lift Me Up,’ the poignant lead single from the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtrack, dedicated to the late actor Chadwick Boseman. Since the track’s release, Rihanna has graced the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, where she unveiled her second pregnancy. Addressing the timing of her musical releases, she stated, “Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing,” hinting that her musical endeavors are strategically timed and eagerly awaited by fans worldwide.
