Alicia Keys is back with another Empire State anthem. The singer-songwriter released “City of Gods (Part II)” on Thursday (April 7), along with a new video.
Her first independent release on AK Records, “City of Gods (Part II)” hears her original chorus and new verses laid over a stripped back, piano rendition. The ALICIA artist also released an accompanying music video for the single, which is directed by Sylvia Zachary and Sing Lee, and performed it live for the first time on Ellen.
Written and produced by Keys, “City of Gods (Part II)” features two new verses from Keys. It keeps the same unforgettable hook, as heard in part one, which interpolates The Chainsmokers’ 2015 track, “New York City.”
Keys sings in the first verse, “City of Gods / City of dreams / City with nothing / Except for what it seems / They’ll never take you / Away for me / Because I see nothing / But a vanity.”
“City of Gods (Part II)” arrives with an accompanying video co-directed by Sylvia Zachary and Sing Lee.
