The Fall/Winter 2022 season of Paris Fashion Week has delivered some of the best runways the fashion world has seen in years. but none were more hotly-anticipated than NIGO‘s debut collection for KENZO.
Japanese designer Kenzo Takada founded his eponymous label in 1970. Despite his Japanese roots, Kenzo, who died in 2020 after contracting Covid-19, launched his brand in Paris, where it has remained.
NIGO’s collection was an unexpected but much-welcomed pivot for KENZO, which saw an injection of youthful preppiness and a unique understanding of tailoring that only KENZO’s signature prints and its creative director’s penchant for patches and appliqués could reinterpret and update.
The collection itself featured 60 looks that all brought Takada’s original vision into the present-day. For instance, the signature poppy print reemerged on oversized shirts, jackets, and vests, as well as flowing maxi skirts and dresses. The adorable plush animal bags also looked back to the house’s origins.
Big names graced the front row. Kanye West, Pharrell Williams , Tyler, The Creator, J Balvin and many more.
