Today, we chat with livinthemomnt to dive into her journey and the themes explored in her latest album, let me liv. We discuss the connection between her debut, ready to liv, and this new project, the narrative of resilience following trauma, and how her Southern roots shape her music.
Martha Jones: Can you share more about the storyline connecting Ready to liv and let me liv? How did you develop the narrative focusing on life after a traumatic tragedy?
livinthemomnt: Well, to provide insight without giving everything away. ‘Ready to liv’ story details the life cycle of a relationship paired with the challenges of chasing your dreams and working a dead-end job. ‘Let me liv’ is an extension of this and really shines light on what happens after everything happens and dealing with the consequences of your actions for better or worse.
Martha Jones: You mentioned that Ready to liv was a trial-and-error process. Can you share a specific lesson or insight you gained from that experience that shaped your approach to let me liv?
livinthemomnt: When creating ‘Ready to liv’ I feel like I put a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself given the fact that this was my debut project and everyone’s introduction to livinthemomnt. I wanted everything to be perfect, but overtime I learned that the beauty of art is to embrace the imperfections. That lesson allowed the making of ‘Let me Liv’ to flow organically. I genuinely enjoyed making this album, and it translates in the music.
Martha Jones: Now that let me liv is complete, what aspects of the album are you most ecstatic about, and what do you hope listeners take away from the experience?
livinthemomnt: I’m most ecstatic about how we were able to make the project into an immersive experience. I hope each listener can identify themselves in the project and understand that they are not alone.
Martha Jones: Are there any plans to create music videos for tracks from let me liv? If so, which songs are you considering, and what themes or concepts do you envision exploring visually?
livinthemomnt: Yes, we are looking to have a few videos done, starting with “no tmrw.” We have some really cool concepts that we are exploring. I don’t want to give it away completely, but I always deliver, so stay tuned.
Martha Jones: Having grown up in Statesville, North Carolina, how has your Southern background influenced your musical identity and style?
livinthemomnt: Statesville is home, and the culture helped shape me into the artist I am today. I feel like my southern charm and individuality are constantly on display in my music.
Martha Jones: What’s the most challenging song you’ve ever written, and why?
livinthemomnt: “Eye of the storm,” no question. I needed the perfect intro to merge ‘Ready to liv’ & ‘Let Me liv’ that could be enjoyed individually while still bridging the overall storyline. “Eye of the storm” is exactly that. Big shoutout to alexalexander for assisting with the writing process.
Martha Jones: Outside of music, what are some of your other passions or hobbies that influence or complement your musical creativity?
livinthemomnt: I’d have to say traveling is my biggest influence. I also draw a lot of inspiration everyday life. I enjoy museums and unique architecture. All of which complement my creativity and help me to create daily.
Martha Jones: What’s the most unexpected place you’ve found inspiration for a song?
livinthemomnt: I find inspiration in a lot of odd places, but most recently I was watching X-men 97, and I got some really good concepts from it that I can’t wait to explore.
Martha Jones: If you could tell your fans one thing about your journey, what would it be?
livinthemomnt: I would tell them that I’m still figuring it out and I am growing daily. I want them to know I am extremely grateful for their support and they won’t be disappointed.
Martha Jones: What does success mean to you as an artist?
livinthemomnt: For me, success is my growth as an artist. To challenge myself & develop my artistry to a level that surprises even me. I believe that much in my process, and it’s only a matter of time.
