At just 22 years old, Lyn Lapid is making a powerful entrance with Buzzkill, her long-awaited debut album, released on April 25 via Mercury Records. Alongside the album, the Maryland native turned Los Angeles transplant shared a music video for the reflective title track.
Lapid’s journey—leaving the familiarity of a small town for the wide unknown of Los Angeles—is a story many can relate to, but her telling of it is refreshingly honest and deeply personal. In a statement, she reflected on the emotional struggles that inspired “Buzzkill,” explaining how the move westward was lonelier than she anticipated. “It was the first time I was in a new place by myself, and I didn’t know anyone outside of my roommates,” she said. Going to parties felt like an attempt at connection, but instead led to “a cycle of meaningless interactions” that only deepened her sense of isolation.
“I felt like a ‘buzzkill’ because it seemed like I had always brought the mood down,” she added. But the realization that she was simply with the wrong people, not the wrong feelings, became transformative. Lapid embraced the idea that true friendships shouldn’t feel forced, and Buzzkill captures that bittersweet journey toward finding meaningful community.
The title track, with its soft melodies and vulnerable lyrics, sets the tone for the album’s intimate storytelling. Lapid’s voice—a blend of wistfulness and quiet strength—carries the emotion of someone learning how to belong without losing herself.
Fans eager to hear Buzzkill live will get their chance this spring and summer as Lapid embarks on her Buzzkill Tour. The run kicks off May 20 in Santa Ana, California, and will hit major cities like San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles.
With her debut, Lyn Lapid proves that sometimes feeling like a “buzzkill” is just part of the process of finding where you truly belong—and she’s doing it in a way that feels raw, real, and impossible to ignore
