Dua Lipa Reflects on Grammy Snub and Career Highs: “I’m Really Happy With Where I Am”

Despite not receiving recognition at the upcoming Grammy Awards, Dua Lipa remains grateful and proud of her accomplishments over the past year. Speaking with Billboard, the pop star reflected on her third studio album, Radical Optimism, and why she isn’t letting the snub overshadow what she calls the “best year of her life.”

Dua Lipa’s 2023 was filled with career milestones. Following the release of Radical Optimism, she launched a world tour, headlined the Glastonbury Festival, and earned her own CBS-TV special. These achievements solidified her as one of the most influential pop artists today. Reflecting on her journey, Dua expressed her pride for the album and its impact on her life and career.

“I’m so proud of Radical Optimism and where it’s brought me,” Dua shared. “I love that album, and I’m having the time of my life performing it live. I’ve been able to do things this year that I once thought were only dreams, so I’m really grateful.”

While recognition from the music industry would have been welcomed, Dua emphasized that the lack of nominations does not diminish her accomplishments. “Although it would have been nice to be recognized by your industry, especially as a woman, I’m so proud seeing so many incredible female artists nominated at the Grammys this year,” she said.

Dua also took a moment to celebrate her friend and fellow artist, Charli XCX, who received multiple nominations for her acclaimed album Brat. Calling Charli’s success well-deserved, Dua praised her creative vision and perseverance. “I love her so much. She’s always been so supportive from day one,” Dua shared. “She’s really stuck to her guns and allowed herself to be creative in her own way, and it’s paid off. That’s the best thing that can ever happen to an artist. She’s so deserving of every moment.”

Despite the Grammy snub, Dua remains focused on the bigger picture and the goals she’s achieved. “Overall, I’m really happy with where I am. I don’t think it really matters in the grand scheme of things where I am, where I want to be, or where I’m going. It doesn’t change the way I feel about the record at all,” she explained.

For Dua, this past year has been about celebrating achievements both big and small. “It’s honestly been the best year of my life,” she noted. “I’ve done things that I’ve wanted to do for so long. I feel like I ticked so many of my boxes this year. It’s amazing.”

Dua Lipa’s perspective highlights a refreshing approach to success: staying grounded, grateful, and focused on the journey rather than the accolades. As she continues to perform and connect with fans worldwide, the impact of Radical Optimism speaks for itself, regardless of awards season.
