Halsey Drops New Single ‘Lucky’: Listen Now

Halsey has just released her newest single, “Lucky,” today (July 26). This track features a fresh take on Britney Spears’ 2000 hit, “Lucky,” highlighting the loneliness that can come with fame. In the chorus, Halsey sings, “I’m so lucky, I’m a star/ But I cry, cry, cries in my lonely heart, thinking/ If there’s nothing missing in my life/ Then why do these tears come at night?” giving the song her own unique spin.

Earlier this month, Halsey teased fans with a snippet of the familiar chorus on Instagram. Accompanying the clip, they wrote, “When I was 5, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me,” with a video featuring her in pink hair and a t-shirt that says “Lucky.” They added, “24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever.” Halsey confirmed that Britney Spears was supportive of the track being reinterpreted. “yes of course!” they responded on X Thursday (July 18) when a fan asked if the “Toxic” singer was involved.

This new single is part of Halsey’s upcoming fifth studio album, following 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Since then, Halsey has released several singles, including “Die 4 Me” in 2023 and “So Good” in 2022, both of which made it onto the Billboard Hot 100.
