Hailey Bieber surprised fans in May by revealing she was six months pregnant with her and Justin Bieber’s first child. Now, she shares how she kept it a secret for so long, crediting her small baby bump. “I didn’t have a noticeable belly until I was six months pregnant, which is when I announced it. I wore big jackets and such,” she explained.
Hailey admitted that she could have kept the news under wraps even longer but didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to celebrate her pregnancy openly. She wanted the freedom to live her life without hiding.
On May 9, 2024, Hailey announced her pregnancy with an Instagram video showing her and Justin renewing their wedding vows in Hawaii. The couple, who will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary in September, haven’t yet revealed their baby’s gender.
Hailey has kept fans updated by sharing photos of her baby bump on social media. She discussed her cravings and morning sickness, explaining she follows a protein-rich pregnancy diet including eggs, chicken, and steak. She also enjoys ready-made items from Erewhon and kombucha drinks. “I just listen to whatever the baby wants. If the baby wants pizza one day, we’re having pizza,” she said. Hailey has also hired a private chef for dinners.
She experienced severe morning sickness during her first trimester and emphasized that it lasted all day long, not just in the mornings.
As they prepare for parenthood, Hailey and Justin are cherishing their remaining time as a duo. Married since 2018, the couple will celebrate their sixth anniversary in September. “In the beginning, it was very emotional for me. I love this human so much. How can I bring someone else into this? I’m trying to enjoy these days of it being just Justin and me,” Hailey shared.
Hailey is cautious about going online, citing the “scary” nature of the internet for pregnant women due to the numerous traumatic birth stories. She avoids reading them to prevent scaring herself.
Hailey also mentioned her growing distance from her Baldwin family, who have been embroiled in controversies recently. She explained, “I’m not super close with my family at this point in my life because I feel like I’m very independent. I’ve built my own family.”
As a public figure, Hailey has faced online criticism, particularly from fans of Justin’s former girlfriend Selena Gomez. Despite trying to “compartmentalize” the negativity, Hailey finds it challenging to ignore entirely. “People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one. ‘Oh, they’re falling apart. They hate each other. They’re getting divorced.’ It’s like people don’t want to believe that we’re happy,” Hailey said. “I used to try to act like it hurts less and less. But I realize that it doesn’t actually ever hurt any less.”
