Olympic Uniforms to Watch at the 2024 Summer Games

The Olympics always offer a chance to witness remarkable athletic performances and this year, the best Olympic uniforms promise to deliver outstanding sports fashion as well. With Paris hosting the Summer 2024 Games, luxury giants LVMH as lead sponsors, and renowned brands like Ralph Lauren and Berluti outfitting the athletes, each country’s team uniforms are poised to draw attention.

The global stage of the Olympics means that the outfits each team wears are carefully designed to reflect the athletes’ home countries. From the elaborate ensembles of the opening ceremony to the functional athletic gear built to withstand intense competition, each uniform symbolizes national pride.

As we approach the Paris Games, let’s take a look at some of the standout Olympic uniforms revealed so far.

The uniforms created for Mongolia by the Ulaanbaatar-based fashion label Michel & Amazonka made waves on TikTok when they were unveiled in July. The outfits, which will be worn by athletes and flag-bearers during the Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies, feature intricate details that caught the attention of viewers worldwide. According to the Mongolian National Olympic Committee, each uniform took an average of 20 hours to complete.

Inspired by traditional Mongolian deels asymmetrical, caftan like robes with flowing sleeves the uniforms feature dark red, navy, and gold embroidered collars, cuffs, and vests. The ensembles also include pleated skirts and draped capes in gauzy white. Accessories such as embroidered pouch bags, sash belts, dangling earrings, pointed buryat hats, and gutal boots complete the look. Each uniform showcases various meaningful symbols and motifs tied to both the Paris Olympics and Mongolia, including the Eiffel Tower, the Olympic rings, the Olympic flame, and the Soyombo symbol from the Mongolian flag.

Michel & Amazonka are gaining recognition not just for their stylish uniforms but also for their luxurious cashmere, wool, and ready-to-wear collections. The self-described “pret-a-couture” brand, led by two sisters, has previously designed uniforms for Mongolian Airlines as well as the ceremonial outfits for Team Mongolia at the 2020 Tokyo Games and the 2022 Beijing Games.

As more uniforms are unveiled leading up to the Games, several other notable designs are expected to make a statement. With Paris as the backdrop, fashion houses and designers are likely to blend modern innovation with traditional elements, ensuring that each team stands out on the global stage.

Luxury conglomerate LVMH, serving as a lead sponsor, has a significant influence on the overall aesthetic of the Games. Brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy may also contribute to designing various aspects of the event, further enhancing the fashion presence at the Olympics.

Ralph Lauren, a staple in Olympic outfitting, is expected to deliver classic and sophisticated uniforms for Team USA, continuing its tradition of blending American heritage with contemporary style. Berluti, known for its exquisite craftsmanship, will likely add a touch of elegance to the athletes’ wardrobes.

The Summer 2024 Olympics in Paris promise not only thrilling athletic feats but also a showcase of exceptional sports fashion. With each team’s uniforms reflecting their national identity and the creativity of top designers, the Games will be a visual highlight. As athletes from around the world prepare to compete, their uniforms will undoubtedly contribute to the excitement and grandeur of this global event.
