After a four-year hiatus since “Future Nostalgia,” Dua Lipa‘s highly anticipated third album has finally arrived. Titled “Radical Optimism,” the album’s rollout began six months ago with the release of “Houdini” in November. Subsequent singles “Training Season” and “Illusion” followed suit, though none managed to crack the top 10. With the full album now available, fans are eager to see if the complete package will garner greater attention.
Earlier this year, Lipa shared insights into the album’s inspiration in a Rolling Stone feature, citing influences from UK rave culture and psychedelia. While referencing artists like Primal Scream, Massive Attack, Oasis, and Blur, Lipa’s approach to “Radical Optimism” remains rooted in straightforward pop bliss, reminiscent of her previous work on “Future Nostalgia.”
The album features songwriting contributions from familiar collaborators such as Ian Kirkpatrick, Emily Warren, Julia Michaels, and Ali Tamposi. However, Lipa also introduced a new “band” of collaborators, including alt-leaning talents like Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, PC Music alum Danny L Harle, indie pianist Tobias Jesso, and Caroline Ailin. Despite high expectations, early public reception prompts speculation about whether this eclectic team can replicate the commercial success of Lipa’s previous album.
