Dua Lipa is set to make her film-acting debut in the highly anticipated live-action “Barbie” movie directed by Greta Gerwig. However, before her on-screen appearance, Lipa has contributed to the film in the best way she knows how – by providing the movie’s reported theme song titled “Dance The Night.” This shimmering pop hit is expected to dominate the airwaves throughout the summer, captivating audiences with its infectious energy.
Accompanying the release of “Dance The Night” was a visually stunning music video that perfectly complements the dance-heavy nature of the song. Mark Ronson, one of the producers involved in the creation of the track, expressed his excitement on Instagram, revealing that the collaboration had originated from a direct message (DM) exchange on the social media platform.
Ronson shared a screenshot of his message to Lipa, dated March 31, 2022, where he enthusiastically introduced the project, stating, “Hey! I’m doing the songs for the bArbie [sic] movie with Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. It’s [directed] by Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird), and it’s maybe the funniest script I’ve ever read, like [redacted] funny… there’s a song with a huge 60 person dance number with the whole cast – I only have the track so far, as they started rehearsals, but I would f*cking love if you would consider co-writing and starring on it. I honestly think the movie’s going to be incredible [redacted].”
Last Thursday, Rolling Stone exclusively revealed the entire Barbie movie soundtrack, which boasts an impressive lineup of artists. Ronson, serving as the soundtrack’s executive producer, has assembled a star-studded collection featuring not only Lipa but also Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi.
In a recent interview with Dazed, Lipa discussed her involvement in the Barbie movie and praised Greta Gerwig’s directorial approach. She expressed admiration for Gerwig’s ability to create films that defy the male gaze, emphasizing that the cast of the movie represents diverse perspectives and challenges the conventional notions of perfection associated with the Barbie doll. Lipa, a three-time Grammy winner, believes that the film’s narrative touches on important themes and offers a fresh perspective on the iconic toy.
The main Barbie movie trailer was released alongside the soundtrack announcement, generating even more excitement among fans. Lipa’s “Dance The Night” music video perfectly complements the film’s vibrant and dynamic atmosphere, leaving audiences eager to experience the full visual spectacle.
