Dua Lipa has unveiled ‘Dance The Night,’ the lead single from the forthcoming ‘Barbie‘ movie soundtrack. This marks the first official song from the highly anticipated film’s soundtrack, and Dua Lipa had teased the track on social media earlier in the week.
The song was written in collaboration with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who are responsible for composing the film’s music. Additionally, Norwegian singer Caroline Ailin contributed to the songwriting. Alongside the release of the single, Dua Lipa also dropped a Barbie-inspired music video, where she confidently struts through vibrant hot-pink film sets. The video features a cameo appearance from the film’s writer, director, and executive producer, Greta Gerwig. Dua Lipa’s new clothing collection, ‘La Vacanza,’ created in collaboration with fashion icon Donatella Versace, is showcased in the video as well.
The Barbie movie is scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide on July 21, with Margot Robbie taking on the lead role of Barbie and Ryan Gosling portraying Ken. While specific details about the film have been kept under wraps, a recently released third trailer provides some context about the plot. The movie also stars Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, and Helen Mirren. It appears to revolve around Barbie’s self-realization and her journey into the real world alongside Ken, as they discover the imperfections of life.
In addition to contributing to the lead single, Dua Lipa makes a cameo appearance in the film, portraying a mermaid version of Barbie. She announced her role to fans a month ago by sharing a character poster stating, “This Barbie is a mermaid.” The soundtrack for ‘Barbie: The Album‘ was also unveiled, revealing 17 artists involved in the collaboration. The lineup includes Haim, Tame Impala, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, and Ryan Gosling, who showcased his musical talents in the 2016 hit film ‘La La Land,’ where he sang and played the piano.
Scheduled for release on July 21, the same day as the film’s premiere, ‘Barbie: The Album’ is now available for pre-order in various formats and color variants. More artists contributing to the soundtrack will be announced at a later date, adding to the excitement surrounding this highly anticipated Barbie movie.
