Video wonderfully captures the terrible tale of the song by incorporating British soul with the easygoing pop ballad.
Australia-raised, UK-based singer-songwriter Kat Penkin has really been carving a name out for herself as of late with her unfiltered brand of unapologetic pop.
Kat has been steadily building a fan base and gaining support from tastemakers since releasing her first singles last year. Her first EP was released in February this year.
From raw balladry to dance bangers and back again, Kat’s six-track EP is a demonstration of her versatility. You can anticipate nothing but the unexpected as Kat takes her first steps into public view.
Unfortunately, the ‘checkmate’ music video is based on a real story of an unhealthy love, suffocating 2 people who don’t know how to leave. Being able to bring this to life and work on such an intimate level with a wondering team was extremely empowering and I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to create something like this.
